When I decided to dress more mature, I also decided to try some makeup. My first adventure is to find vegan or vegetarian ones with mild ingredients that cater to more sensitive skin (aka “free from many irritants” type), and Mineral Fusion came to my attention.
To be honest, I don’t know what my must-haves are so far, so I started from the basics. Here are the stuff I got.
Mineral Fusion Liquid Foundation – Warm 1
Aqua, caprylic/capric triglyceride, beeswax, stearic acid, glycerol caprylate, glycol palmitate, glyceryl stearate, silica, oryza sativa (rice) starch, mica, dimethicone, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter) fruit, tocopherol (vitamin E), palmitoyl tripeptide-5, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract, roman anthemis nobilis (chamomile) extract, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) extract, rosa canina (rosehip) oil, aspalathus linearis (rooibos red tea), thymus vulgaris (thyme) extract, olea europaea (olive) leaf extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, punica granatum (pomegranate) extract, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root powder, l-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), phenoxyethanol. May Contain (+/-): Titanium dioxide, black iron oxide, red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide.
Although I always like the frosty bottle, I do find it a bit troublesome to pour it out without a pump sometimes. Since this foundation is fragrance free, it smells its natural smell. You might not like it when you apply but it disappears soon when you spread out. The color is suitable for lighter Asian skin with warm tone, although since I got a bit tan in holiday in winter it appears a bit too white on me. Sometimes I mix my moisturizer and foundation with 50% of each, this way makes it more a sheer appearance, but more deeply hydrated when the weather is super dry. I might try a darker shade next time I order, although finding the foundation with the right tone is never easy, I heard, lol.
Mineral Fusion Duo Concealer – Warm
Caprylic/capric triglyceride, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, silica, jojoba esters, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), pinus pinaster bark extract (pycnogenol), zinc oxide, stearyl glycyrrhetinate (licorice root), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e), carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, camellia sinensis (white tea) leaf extract, aspalathus linearis (rooibos red tea) leaf extract, punica granatum (pomegranate) seed extract, ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin c), phenoxyethanol. May contain (+/-):) titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77492)
I got the same toned concealer to go with my foundation, although sometimes I use it alone when I don’t use foundation. However, this is not a heavy duty concealer, so if you have very serious dark circles around your eyes it might not cover it fully. I normally apply the darker color first over the dark circle areas, dab it a bit, then the lighter color around the edge to blend it well with the rest.
Mineral Fusion Lipstick – Ruby
Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, trioctyldodecyl citrate, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil*, sesamum indicum (sesame) seed oil*, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax*, vegetable oil, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter*, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil*, persea gratissima (avocado) oil*, thymus vulgaris (thyme) oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oil*, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract*, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed oil*, camellia sinensis (white tea) leaf oil*, cyclopia intermedia (honeybush) leaf oil*, punica granatum (pomegranate) oil*, l-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), tocopherol (vitamin E). May Contain (+/-): Mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide.
* Certified Organic
To be honest, finding a vegan lipstick is not easy. With limited brands your choices of the right shades are also limited. Not to mention as I must shop online, without trying it on my lips, I have no idea what it would appear like when applied.
My first try is the Ruby one. What I really love about this one is that it’s very hydrating and has great ingredients. I can simply apply it alone without lip balm. The color is bright wine red, although it is not pigmented or long lasting if you want something that stays on for a long time. I always like to wipe lipstick off when eating, so I don’t bother reapplying every few hours.
Mineral Fusion Liquid Eyeliner – Ebony
Aqua, vegetable glycerin, behenic acid, cellulose gum, vegetable squalane, xanthan gum, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, beeswax, perilla ocymoides extract, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, roman anthemis nobilis (chamomile) extract, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, tocopherol (vitamin E), caprylic glycol. May Contain (+/-): Red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide, black iron oxide, titanium dioxide.
For beginner liquid eyeliner is surely a challenge, and after ten or more tries, I felt I more or less got better. What I like about this product is its ingredients, what I don’t like is the pen itself. The holder part looks beautiful but it’s too thin to hold, which makes application more difficult, especially for unsteady hands as a beginner. Sometimes I would accidentally got the ink into my hands, and it can be messy. The tip doesn’t feel easy to use either, and sometimes I got the ink to my eyelashes by accident, although I am not sure whether it’s because I am just a beginner. The color is super dark black, which makes the makeup a bit too “obvious” on my brown eyes. I wonder if the other brown shade called Valley would work better. The eyeliner stays long and almost water-proof as long as you don’t rub it, especially with water or tears. When removing you can simply moisturize them with damp cotton pads, then use q-tip to brush it off. You don’t even need eye makup remover, which is great!
Mineral Fusion, Waterproof Mascara, Cocoa, 0.57 fl oz (17 ml)
Aqua, carnauba (copernicia cerifera) wax, cera alba (beeswax), arabica gum, alcohol, sodium dehydroacetate, dehydroxanthan gum, emulsifying wax, tocopherol (vitamin E), origanum vulgare (oregano) leaf extract, argania spinosa (argan) oil, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, rosa canina (rosehip) flower extract, panthenol (vitamin B5), green tea (camellia sinensis) extract, phenoxyethanol. May Contain (+/-): Titanium dioxide, black iron oxide, red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide.
I bought a lighter shade for mascara. The color looks dark brown but when applied it’s kind of black, not brownish at all, however it goes well with my brown eyes. Compared to the eyeliner, I would say this one is unfortunately a bit disappointing. Pros: it contains rather natural ingredients and doesn’t smudge easily. Cons: the brush is way too large which making the application very messy, it gets easily on my eyelid or under my eyes; the formula is slightly dry so it doesn’t coat evenly, instead it looks a bit clumpy; occasionally tiny flakes might get into eyes and causes irritation; when completely dried it has to be removed by oil cleanser (see how to make your own HERE) instead of using only warm water.
Overall I like Mineral Fusion, and I would like to try some other shades of the same products. I do hope in the future the issues I mentioned would be improved though.
