We always love the seaside. So when we were in Melbourne we decided to visit St Kilda in one evening. You might also have heard that there is possibility to bump into little penguins going home at the beach. Although they're extremely shy, and won't come out until it gets really dark, so we couldn't go there in the afternoon and come back to town to eat dinner. Usually in such a place the seafood is the staple on the menu, so I was a bit worried I couldn't find anything to eat. Thank goodness, we were lucky to find an Asian fast-food style restaurant here. So dinner solution was solved.
The restaurant isn't very big. It's painted green with a few tables and a counter to serve food. There are two types of food serving here: the freshly made dishes and the ready-to-eat.
Honey was a bit lucky as he ordered laksa, which is a curry noodle soup with various vegetables. The sauce tasted really good and I was jealous and couldn't help eating a few spoons from his bowl.
I ordered the spinach, mushroom stir fry with rice. The sauce was nice, although enoki mushroom is notorious for sticking in the teeth. The spinach should have been blanched first before cooking, so it wouldn't taste chalky. Other than that, the sauce was tasty enough. I would have wished to order something else though.
Overall Vegie Time isn't something special, however, it's a nice place for vegetarians or vegans who want to catch the sunset or a glimpse of the cute penguins, but don't want to make a fuss searching for something edible, as it's casual, quick, inexpensive and really close to the beach.
